Yalos—γιαλος, meaning “shore” in Greek—is a collection of electroacoustic works by Tetiana Khoroshun that explores Ukraine’s landscapes in relation to water.
Join me for a listening session of Yalos — an sound journey moving through the salt flats of Chongar, the industrial landscape of Zaporizhzhia, the Sukha Moskovka River, and the Black Sea.
I’ll be in the chat throughout the event, sharing stories and context behind the pieces, field recordings, and places that shaped the music, and answering your questions along the way.

ABOUT
Before reading, try something.
Read the next sentence silently.
Then read it again, paying attention only to its rhythm.
Tetiana Khoroshun is a Ukrainian composer, sound artist, and performer.
If the second reading was different from the first - piece has already begun.
Khoroshun's practice is interested in what happens when something can still be experienced as two things at once: speech and melody, document and composition, landscape and instrument, listener and performer, human and technology.
Rather than crossing boundaries, her works often remain within the space between them. Instead of presenting fixed musical objects, they compose conditions in which listening itself begins to shift. Phones become instruments, field recordings become ensemble textures, synthetic speech becomes musical material, and landscapes become active participants in performance. These translations do not erase the identity of a sound; they allow it to inhabit more than one reality at once.
Born in Yalta, Crimea, and working across different languages, places, and artistic forms, Khoroshun approaches translation not only as movement between media, but as a condition of living. The ongoing occupation of Crimea and the experience of war are not subjects that simply appear in her works. They shape the unstable spaces between memory and documentation, belonging and displacement, testimony and imagination—spaces where sound can reveal relationships that language alone cannot fully hold.
Working across acoustic and electroacoustic composition, sound installation, performance, film, and participatory formats, Khoroshun creates frameworks for listening rather than finished answers. Her works invite performers and audiences alike to renegotiate how sound is organised, perceived, and shared.
She studied composition at the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv and continued her education at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana. Her works have been presented at Ruhrtriennale, Darmstadt Ferienkurse, DAAD Artists in Berlin, Ars Electronica, TO)pot Festival, Forum 2000, and other international platforms. She is a member of the Ukrainian Association of Electroacoustic Music, performer in duo GUMA, manager of Sed Contra Ensemble, and composer at Daraba sound design studio.
